The AA2A scheme will enable me to develop ongoing concerns relating to the relationship between sculptural form, applied colour and tactile surfaces. In 2004 with the ‘Unctuous loop’ series I looked at the possibilities of utilising a printed surface with my sculptural work – albeit one of rather improvised and limited means. Utilising the print facilities at the University of Worcester I plan to explore further the potential of traditional print methods, such as etching and screen printing, applied within the making of sculptural forms. Repetition and seriality often feature in my work, referencing concerns associated with manufacture and production. Printmaking’s clear capacity to produce repeat multiple images is ideally suited to developing these concerns further. Initially I will explore traditional aspects of print making and also the possibility and potential of producing ‘hybrid’ prints utilising a combination of methods. This initial experimental and research stage can then be applied to arriving at suitable methods for printing upon a variety of surfaces, which in turn would be employed in the production of sculptural forms.
