University of Cumbria 2008/2009
Geoff Cox
I started the project with the intention of looking for ways to combine metal and wood with my present ceramics work. The initial stages were spent in exploring metal manipulation, creating textures by rolling, beating, melting and then fabricating with acetylene welding and silver soldering.
However, mold making and casting in bronze and aluminum became the most important development - 75% of the allocated time was spent with this process.
During my time at the University there was little time to develop ideas beyond the initial experiments, but I found the time invaluable in moving my practice forward. It gave me new tools and new insights and I have no doubts that over the coming months and years my work will move into new and exciting fields.
