I want to produce a new body of work stemming from a previous piece of work on ballet shoes, which I feel I could use as a starting point. I want to use mix media to create my pieces using print, textiles and metalwork. I have a history of working with fabrics and textiles and often utilise the skills or ‘handicrafts’ whilst working on projects.
My practise undertakes the transformation of objects and materials. I am particularly interested in nature and life’s transience or the passing of time and want to convey this in my work. I am very keen on using photography to record and inform my practise, looking closely at flowers shells, and natural history and the distortion or abstraction caused by zooming in on objects.
Having taken part in two textile workshops one led by Alice Kettle, has led me to working with fabrics in a new way, creating texture from weaving paper and materials and drawing upon how other artists have worked in textiles to create a more personal approach to their art.
