Frequently asked questions for artists interested in hosting AA2A Engage student visits:
Q. I live 38 miles from the nearest current AA2A institution, can I still make a proposal?
A. Yes. If you are prepared to travel into town, as long as your student visit will take place under 10 miles from the host institution for example meeting students at a gallery or arts centre.
Q. What is the deadline for paid proposals?
A. We have extended the deadline for paid proposals to 9am Friday 19th August. After this point we will still accept proposals, however the budget to pay at least £50 for qualifying proposals will have run out.
Q. How much will I get paid?
A. If we don't run out of money before the deadline, we'll divide whats left between the eligible artists, so, you may get more than £50 for your proposals.
Q. When will I be paid?
A. We will be making payments directly into artists' bank accounts within a week of the deadline.
Q. Where will my proposals be seen?
A. We'll put your proposals on the online AA2A Engage Map which staff and Student Reps will get access to.
Q. How will Host institutions contact me?
A. If a university wants to take up an artists proposal, they'll contact you. It could even be an AA2A Student Rep, as we are encouraging them to get more involved.
Q. If I host a student visit, would I get expenses?
A. We would normally expect institutions to reimburse any direct expenses, such as travel, providing its been agreed in advance.
Q. If I got paid to host a student visit, would I get expenses as well?
A. If you are paid to host a student visit, we would be unlikely to pay expenses as well.
Q. Will I be paid to host the session I've proposed?
A. If you receive money for your proposals, it doesn't guarantee you'll be paid for the actual visit, as this will depend on whats left in our budget.
Q. I didn't get a payment for my proposal, can I still get paid to host a student visit?
A. Even if you havent received a payment for your proposal it doesnt exclude you from getting paid for hosting a visit if we have funds available.
Q. If I receive a payment for my proposal, am I obliged to host a visit?
A. Your proposal should be something that you'd be prepared to run whether funded or not. However, you would not be obliged to run the session if it was difficult to organize a date or your circumstances changed.
Q. Can I host more than one paid session?
A. It's unlikely, as we'd like to fund as many artists as possible to host visits.
Q. Why aren't you going to pay people in future?
A. The payments are part of a time-limited initiative to raise the profile of AA2A Engage, which has always been a voluntary arrangement.
Q. Could I negotiate access with the university workshops or library in exchange for hosting a student visit?
A. It's always worth a try. You'd need to contact the AA2A Coordinator and ask them if its possible.
Q. The college where I did AA2A is no longer on the scheme, can I still offer to host a student visit?
A. Yes, as long as the student visit you offer is near one of the current AA2A institutions, ideally 5 miles up to a max. of 10.
Q. I have an exhibition coming up at a local gallery, can I host a student visit there?
A. We'd ask you to avoid writing a proposal for a specific time-limited event because we don't want it to go out of date. If you can arrange the visit to suit a particular timescale or event, then that'd be a bonus.
