I was delighted to meet the national director of the AA2A program, Wendy Mason, when she did a talk at the University of Central Lancashire on self-employment yesterday. I have been a self employed artist since 2002 but I still learnt some useful tips. I wish I could have had this fantastic talk when I started out as self employed!
I would recommend self employment as an artist, I have been able to work around family commitments and have had the freedom to work on lots of different amazing projects. You do have to be pro-active though, projects won't come to you until you become well known. You have to look for opportunities and talk to everyone- you never know what links or work will arise from conversations!
