I am interested in exploring the interplay between different architectural and spatial elements such as surface, depth and form and how these elements can be manipulated to disrupt the viewer’s spatial perception, orientation and experience. I employ various mediums and techniques, with a particular focus on waxed paper, frames and sewing patterns. These materials not only possess unique tactile and sensory qualities but also allow me to use line and colour to create visual journeys through and around the work.
Working in a minimalist vein, I aim to create tension between each physical element, inviting viewers to engage with the interplay of form and space. I make different forms of art which include large installations, wall-based works and sound art. By utilising multichannel sound I aim to enhance the spatial and sensory experience of the viewer. The particular architecture of a given installation space can also become an integral part of each iteration of the work, creating an oscillating relationship of enveloping and being enveloped.
I seek to evoke our responses to space and place. By inviting viewers to engage with my work in both conceptual and sensory ways, I aim to create experiences that provoke personal and proprioceptive responses and prompt new perspectives.
During my AA2A project I will use the time to make work in response to a new agreed space agreed with the University. I will focus on the feel, function and architecture of the space and explore it’s potential to house custom-made work that ‘fits’ into elements of the architecture of the space. I will push my practice further through testing and documenting different iterations of this work and others responses to it.
