This body of work was inspired by my interest in synaethesia,a neurological condition which allows a cross-talk of the senses.I researched the work of abstract painters with this condition and this body of work was directly inspired by Joan Mitchell.
In this work I am primarily interested in the landscape and the way a certain view or location can leave an imprint in our memory.
My inspiration is drawn directly from the countryside, either in the form of a particular view or a natural object that contains, for me, the essence of a place.
More recently I have explored colour in abstraction and its ability to represent place or emotion. This has translated into my work through a carefully chosen colour palette and specific textures, drawing on an emotional response to a memorable location rather than a visual representation.
Each piece is unique and cannot be repeated.
