After the exciting discovery of Dark Room facilities at Staffs, I re-orientated my residency plan to include analogue photography (of which I was not familiar). Supported by Ian and Catherine (both fabulous) I am now able to develop negatives, process prints and use medium and large format without issue.
The amount learned in such a small time was unexpected. I realised learning the science and mechanics of photography through Digital SLR's, does not realise the full scope of understanding afforded by analogue. Understanding chemical processing, the relationship between light and object, making calculated decisions before pressing the shutter release allows a new confidence and excitement in the medium.
