Sensible Shoes

A series of works on the theme of carbon footprint, using the starting point of a flat net from an original Roman sandal.

These shoes were produced  in the laser cutting studio at Plymouth Art College and then painted and assembled.

I respected the original design but customised it to include imagery that reflects our current anxieties about the environment. I have cut out  patterns in the sole of the shoe, inspired by the sea and crustaceans,  that I will use as a stencil to create a trail of suggestive footprints.
