AA2A Resident Artist

Amanda Kyritsopoulou

Schemes:

Through a combination of photography, text, sculpture and time-based work I fabricate clusters of objects. Expressing an attraction to all that shapes everyday life for the anxious urbanite, my work borrows from the highs and lows of functionalism, consumer culture, DIY, sport and product design.

My photographic and sculptural practice connects formal considerations with a discussion about urban space and its social, economical and psychological aspects.

Visible and invisible structures of the city life and their manifestations within architecture, advertising, and designed objects that influence our physical movements and affective

experiences, all form frames of reference for my artworks.

The ways in which modern spaces, surfaces and materials construct desire and communicate emotions and power is the principal area of my ongoing research practice.

With a formal interest in subtle optical illusion and a trickster’s approach to materiality, colour and display I encounter thoughts, bodies and objects as a big knot of knots;

always thinking about the self and this world,

the self in this world

this world in the self.
