David John Scarborough is a British-Australian artist based in the East Midlands. His practice traces the desire lines between ecology, sound and digital media, exploring the knotty relationships between language and land. Through installation, performance and virtual spaces, he creates works that connect landscape, songcraft and worldbuilding, interlacing makeshift, self-taught methods with ecological and mythic research.
David’s work has been exhibited at Phoenix Cinema, Leicester; LCB Depot, Leicester; Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, Northamptonshire; Contemporary Sculpture Fulmer, Slough; Turf Projects, Croydon; Nottingham Castle Museum and Gallery; and BACKLIT, Nottingham. His projects merge sonic and visual processes through hybrid technologies and expanded storytelling, reimagining contemporary British folk traditions shaped by landscape, song and technology.
He is Director at Modern Painters, New Decorators, an artist-led space in Loughborough, fostering creativity, community and long-term support for artists and ideas through exhibitions, workshops, events and collaborative projects. Alongside this, he works with All-In: Leicester, a disability advocacy organisation supporting cultural access and inclusive design within the arts.
David is part of the Loughborough University Arts & Ecology Research Group, contributing to conversations around artistic methods, environmental change and place-based storytelling. He also makes music with Kiln House, creating visual albums and intimate live performances that combine sound, text and moving image.
