Lucy Churchill’s work as a multi-disciplinary feminist artist evolved from a lengthy career in the highly-skilled traditional stonecarving trade. Since 2019, prompted by the MeToo movement, she paused her architectural and memorial commissions to focus on her own expressive stone sculptures. Her cathartic artworks celebrate body autonomy, and demonstrate art's ability to communicate difficult topics with direct emotional impact.
A recent Arts Council Development Grant has enabled Churchill to branch out further into other media. In early 2025 she established Make Your Mark, an inter-disciplinary collaborative group in York to work on socially motivated art projects, using art, craft and film to make police data and personal testimonies visible. Their installation Shame Ends Here will be shown at CityScreen Cinema, York on 1 February 2026.
