AA2A Resident Artist

Natasha MacVoy

Schemes:

I am a visual artist and educator working between my house in rural Dursley and my studio at Spike Island, Bristol.

My sculptural practice includes writing, ceramics, murals, performance and film to create installations and environments. The work is a generous, gentle and complex study of mothering, identity, loss, gain and unconditional love through the lens of neurodiversity.

My role as primary carer (since 2010) and home educator (since 2019) for neurodiverse teenage twins both informs and disrupts my practice. My installations are affecting and emotionally charged, speaking directly to lived experience, where the omissions are as important as the inclusions. Thinking about how we see, and how we interpret what we see, both verbal and non-verbal.

Drawing on my own experience of using the studio as a template for home educating, I'm interested in adaptative care and learning in a broken system, shared expertise as protection and hope through radical connection.
