Eileen Morley is an artist and knitter from Richmond, Virginia, currently living and working in London. Her day-to-day practice is founded on picking things up on bike commutes. The repetitive nature of cycling is broken up by these objects, and Eileen observes that our lives are full of things and textiles. Twisted bike locks, faded rope, and broken reflectors become the subject of larger knit works that honor and elevate the mundane. Each work is a conversation between the found object and the stitches of knitting.
Her work has been exhibited in Materials: Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition, the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, the Anderson Gallery, and ADA Gallery (Richmond, VA), as well as the Icelandic Textile Center (Blönduós, Iceland). She received a BFA in Craft and Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MA in Textiles at the Royal College of Art in London.
