Evelyn Cromwell is an artist and fabricator based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Her work has been exhibited at Slugtown, Middlesbrough Art Week and The Museum of Glass Art in Ebeltoft, Denmark. She’s also one half of the curatorial duo Spaghetti Factory.
Eve has a keen interest in functional sculpture. There is something exciting to an object that can be or do multiple things. She’s drawn to the mundane and the forms of everyday spaces and objects. Often playing with objects that are so omnipresent – manhole covers, traffic cones, cutlery – that people don’t tend to contemplate them. She firmly believes there is a story to be told about why things exist and look the way they do, and what it says about our culture. Eve wants to explore how she can use this imagery to create space using textures and objects, whether to set a scene or influence a person’s behaviour.
