I would like to continue to develop my ceramics skills in throwing and slip casting. My recent work has used these processes and I have been experimenting with testing the characteristics of both the clay as a material, and the making processes.
The sculptures I have been making are informed by my synesthetic experiences of sounds and music. While I have been making the ceramics I have been making sound recordings of the very textural sounds of working with the clay and glazes in their different solid and fluid states. I have been working in an experimental way and I would like to now think more about the presentation of the work.
This opportunity would allow me to build on the ceramics skills I have been working on, and wouldn’t be able to afford to access elsewhere. I have been using hand-building techniques in my own studio but I don’t currently have access to facilities to throw or create slip casts. It would be really good for me to have a period of time to develop my practice by being led by the materials and work in a really experimental way that isn’t hindered by limited access to equipment.
I am hoping to apply for an MA and this would allow me to build my portfolio to make applications. I would now like to refine my sculptural work and think more about presentation. This will help me exhibit more as an artist in different spaces and with different curators and further develop my practice. Now that I am fully working as a freelancer, I want to ensure I can commit time to my making practice and invest in this area of my work.
