Nima Javan is a multidisciplinary artist based in Liverpool whose practice explores imagined worlds, animals, migration, community and our relationship with the environment. Drawing on Persian miniature painting, textiles and carpet traditions, he creates vibrant paintings, tufted rugs, mixed-media works and sculptural forms populated by distinctive characters and creatures.
His practice moves between two and three dimensions, using colour, pattern and playful visual language to explore ideas of identity, belonging, transformation and coexistence.
He is particularly interested in translating his painting language into textile, rug-making and sculptural forms, and in developing new relationships between traditional craft processes and contemporary visual art.
Javan has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally and has developed commissioned artworks and community-focused creative projects. His work is held and presented in exhibition, healthcare and public contexts. Through his practice, he is interested in creating accessible, imaginative spaces that encourage curiosity, connection and
dialogue.
