Rachael House is a multi-media fine artist who makes participatory events, objects, performance, drawings and zines and she thinks they are all the same. Concerns in her work include claiming public space, collective joy, ageing, mental health, queer family, feminism and gender. Her projects include Rachael House’s Feminist Disco - putting the ‘disco’ into ‘discourse’ & piñatas representing gender binary, heteronormativity & patriarchy, to be gleefully smashed.
Rachael’s current research is focussed on non-heterosexual behaviours in non-human animals.
In 2023 her tiled panel welcome trans queer non-binary aliens was acquired for V&A permanent collection & this year Wellcome Collection bought sketchbooks of work made over the first year of C-19 for her book, Resistance Sustenance Protection. Recent work has shown at Whitechapel Gallery, Parlour Gallery Deptford, Queer Britain, Arnolfini Bristol, De La Warr Pavilion & New Hall Art Collection. In 2023 she was in residence at The Feminist Library, leading to an exhibition of research & work in progress. Recent publications include Crafted With Pride, edited by Daniel Fountain, pub.
