AA2A Resident Artist

Sheila Ghelani

Schemes: /

I make performance, social art, installation, text, moving and still image. I am a solo and collaborative artist, originally trained in contemporary dance. I am interested in the relationship between art and science with particular focus on hybridity, and care. My social art works, participatory events and live work cross-pollinate ideas, materials, people and places to make space for those that are in-between, on the edge, in the middle at the border - making visible the connections between identity, ecology, science, history and the present day. My interest in hybridity is informed in part by my own experience of being mixed heritage (Indian / English). I am an artist who champions making work for the passer-by.

Whilst on the AA2A scheme, I will be experimenting with some print-making techniques for use in future work and commissions, and spending time reflecting on some of the approaches I currently employ - what could I refine, improve or do differently? I want to attend some lectures and access the library for research. I also hope to share some work-in-progress and finished work with students and engage with the natural world on campus.

Connecting with the university, the equipment, the students, the staff will allow me contribute more to the local arts ecology & widen my network closer to home.
