Yui Yamamoto is a Japanese artist based in the UK, working in performance, sound, installation and sculpture. Her practice explores hidden and uncomfortable aspects of society, investigating the invisible social relationships, norms and cultures that shape our lives. She is particularly interested in working with everyday objects, revealing their presence and agency.
She examines unspoken forms of existence and explores the inner qualities of the oppressed, passive and unheard. Her work requires the presence of audiences, connecting directly with them to challenge passive attitudes. Through performance, installation and participatory work, she encourages people to reflect on their sensory experiences and their relationship to society. Research is central to her practice, combining interviews, historical investigation, material culture and experimentation.
Her work has been presented internationally, including at Two Temple Place, London, 2023; Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh, 2024; Crypt Gallery, London, 2024; Migration Museum, London, 2025; Künstlerstadt Kalbe, Germany, 2025; Home Live Art, Hastings, 2025; La Cabine, France, 2025; and Stowarzyszenie Mosaic, Poland, 2026. She has held solo exhibitions at Broadworks, London, with Hive Curates in 2024, and at Platform, Finland, in 2023. Since 2022, she has been a Visiting Artist in Performance at Central Saint Martins.
